Planting in the Common Areas
The Landscape committee has spent many hours surveying the neighborhood trying to establish what plants were on the original planting plan and what has been added. We are attempting to move back towards the original planting plan along the neighborhood streets and are hopeful you will understand and be willing to comply with a few things. The original planting plan only exists electronically - 10 pages of detail on a big drawing of the neighborhood. In the coming months we are working on a more user friendly version - a list ( by streets) of the original plants. This can then be posted on the newsletter page.
The landscape companies we have dealt with the past few years have not performed as we had hoped and we realize there have been many frustrations with inconsistent irrigation, dead plants and empty spaces in front of houses. This has led many of you to plant in front of your house in the common area. We are asking you NOT to do this for a couple of reasons:
1.Digging in these areas could harm wires or pipes.
2. Planting plants that are thorny and could grow to overhang the sidewalk and present a safety issue for pedestrians leave us open to liability.
We are on the cusp of hiring a new landscape company and are hopeful things will change for the better regarding the aforementioned issues. They come with good recommendations and though this will be more expensive, we feel the benefits are worth it. Once this is settled, we hope to begin replanting trees, plants, etc. that have died early this spring before it gets too warm.
We can try to incorporate the plants that are already there. But if plants that have been planted in the common areas are deemed to represent a hazard, - or will grow big enough to become a hazard, we will work with homeowners - they can replant somewhere on their property or if they don’t want them, perhaps the landscapers can replant somewhere more appropriate.
This will be a process. We ask for your forbearance.
